ESM commits to reducing its CO2 emissions with ANME

On 24 and 25 October 2024 ESM joined the programme of the Tunisian National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) dedicated to the life-cycle assessment of products in the automotive and aerospace industry. With this agreement, ESM commits to measuring the carbon footprint of its products and to reducing its CO2 emissions.

−45%carbon intensity targeted by Tunisia for 2030, compared with 2010

−30%energy intensity targeted for 2030

35%renewable electricity targeted for 2030

National targets for 2030 (Nationally Determined Contribution), TETA project factsheet, GIZ.

What the programme involves

  • Measuring. A life-cycle assessment follows a part from raw material to delivery and quantifies its CO2 emissions at each stage.
  • Training. The programme started with a kick-off meeting followed by a training workshop in Tunis, so that each company has an in-house contact able to apply the method.
  • Reducing. The results point to the levers that matter for a machining company: material use, the energy consumed by machines and compressed air, and logistics.

Why it matters

Aerospace manufacturers have committed to decarbonising their supply chains, and they increasingly ask their suppliers for reliable carbon data. Joining the ANME programme means we can answer with figures, and keep reducing them.

The programme is part of the TETA project (Supporting an Accelerated Tunisian Energy Transition), implemented by the Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, ANME and STEG with GIZ, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
