Tool presetter — tool assembly, measurement and shrink fitting

You prepare the cutting tools for our 3, 4 and 5-axis machining centres: assembly, shrink fitting, measurement on the presetting bench and release to production, so that every tool arrives at the machine measured, identified and ready to cut.

What you will do

• Prepare the tools for each manufacturing order from the tool list in the manufacturing file, ahead of the changeover.
• Assemble tools in their holders: shrink-fit, collet and hydraulic chucks, respecting gauge lengths and tightening torques.
• Shrink and unshrink tools on the shrink-fit machine, in compliance with safety rules.
• Measure length, diameter, radius and run-out on the presetting bench (Zoller, Haimer, Kelch or equivalent) and record or transfer the values for the machine.
• Identify each tool individually and keep its record up to date: measurements, service life and regrinding.
• Inspect returned tools: wear, chipping and condition of holders, then send them for regrinding or replace them.
• Monitor the stock of tools, inserts and holders and report replenishment needs to the stores and purchasing.
• Keep the presetting area clean and the equipment in condition: 5S, FOD and first-level maintenance of the benches.

What we look for

• BTP or BTS in mechanical manufacturing or equivalent.
• One to two years of experience in tool presetting or CNC machining; experience of a Zoller, Haimer or Kelch bench is an advantage.
• Good knowledge of cutting tools and holders: end mills, drills, inserts, shrink-fit and collet chucks, HSK and SK tapers.
• Able to read a tool list and a setup sheet, and comfortable with measurement software and IT tools.
• Precision, method and reliability: a wrong tool length or radius at the bench becomes a non-conforming part at the machine.
• Availability for shift work, as the shop runs three shifts.
